Neurosurgery resident Krishanthan Vigneswaran, MD, was awarded a $40,000 Research Fellowship Grant from the Neurosurgery Research & Education Foundation.  This resident-only research fellowship provides training for neurosurgeons who are preparing for academic careers as clinician investigators.  As the premier funder of neurosurgical studies, the Neurosurgery Research & Education Foundation provides funding for studies in basic, translational and patient-oriented clinical research for investigators in North America through two neurosurgical research grant programs.

The grant will go towards projects in the Clinically-Related Neuro-oncology Laboratory under the direction of Jeffrey Olson, MD, in conjunction with collaborator Renee Read, PhD.  The lab focuses on the development of novel treatments for targeted therapy of pediatric and adult gliomas by utilizing patient samples, pharmacology and the drosophila model of glioblastoma. The lab is currently working on new drug therapies and mechanisms of drug resistance in the treatment of high grade gliomas.
